Has there been movies that you find with each repeated viewing it simply gets better and better? Of course there's movies I loved from the the first time I seen it, and though I may have since then seen it numerous times I still find it every bit as good.

I will give three examples. Pulp Fiction, The Shawshank Redemption and Casablanca all are movies I loved from the very first viewing. If I were to see any of those 3 today I would still love them. But what about movies you didn't love the first time? Did you like that particular movie the 2nd time? The 3rd time?

When V For Vendetta was first released I went the first day. Part of the reason was because of Alan Moore but the main reason was the Wachowski Brothers (I liked their early movies Bound and The Matrix). Visually I liked V For Vendetta but I thought the storyline was only okay. I was slightly disappointed.

When the movie was released on DVD I decided to give it another try and watch it again. I'm so glad I did because I found the movie to be way better than I remembered. The movie is now being shown regularly on the pay channels and I have now seen it many times. I just find it better and better with each viewing. Maybe I was too dumb to get it the first time or maybe my mind was somewhere else but if you haven't seen it I highly recommend it.

Hey all you movie fans out there in JU land, any suggestions or recommendations on movies you once weren't sure of but now like?

Mine is Airplane. But that ws kind of ruined for me by a friend who saw it first and raved about it! So I guess my expectations were too high when I saw it. But the second time I saw it I appreciated the fast one liners all the more! Now it is one of the 2 top comic movies that I can watch over and over again (the other being Young Frankenstein).

I would have to say Napoleon Dynamite. The first time I saw it I didn't think it was that funny and the more I watched it the funnier it got. Now I can quote the movie. It definately improved for me with repeated viewings.

Moulin Rouge is another one of my favorites that grew on me. It was just so surreal the first time I saw it.

I liked V for Vendetta but the first time I saw it, it bugged me to death that he talked while wearing that mask and I never saw his lips moving. It just annoyed me for some reason.

No, if they suck the first time for me they pretty well suck forever.

But funny -I can think of a few songs that fall into that catagory. Like Tom Petty's I Won't Back Down for example. I hated it when it first came out but have since grown to like it.

Dr. Guy,
Mine is Airplane.

That movie is still funny.

(the other being Young Frankenstein).

A classic but it's Young Frankensteen.

Loca,

I don't think you're alone. I know alot of people who hated it the first time.

I think that was part of the reason I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. To me, it's a 4-star movie now.

So youwon't back down unless it comes to giving a movie a second chance.

Poison,
One movie for me; Braveheart.

When I went to go see Braveheart I didn't want to go because I thought I wouldn't lik it at all. I ended up liking it a lot.

I'm kinda with Shovel on this one. If it sucked the first time, then nothing is going to make me believe it could be better on a second viewing. On the other hand, there are some movies I remember thinking were absolutely brilliant when I first saw them then turned out to be extremely suck-worthy on a subsequent viewing. I'm not going to name names because I don't want to reveal how bad my taste can be.

I thought 'V For Vendetta' was a good movie but nowhere near as good as the graphic novel. Okay, now thinking about it, the other Alan Moore adaptation 'From Hell' disappointed me greatly when I first saw it because it is nothing like the graphic novel. On subsequent viewings, I enjoyed the movie for what it is. I can't think of any other movie, though.

Good article, mate.

Yep,  same for me.  Especially movies I loved as a preteen and thought were fantastic aren't so good!

A movie I watch over and over still see something new is "Grumpy Old Men".  I love the first one the best,  and enjoy the sequel too.  Always enjoy watching "South Pacific".

"High Fidelity," "Gosford Park," and "The Royal Tenenbaums."

Total support on "Casablanca."

And, for what it's worth, I hated "Napolean Dynamite" on my first viewing, too...and I still do.

Come on now. Share them with us. We promise we won't laugh ... too much. Seriously I think everyone has thought at one time some sucky movie was brilliant. Then there's those times when everybody loves a movie and I don't. Then they look at me like there is something wrong with me. Of course there's something wrong with me , but not my movie taste.

I was so disappointed when I saw it. Maybe I was just too geeked up to see it.

Thanks, mate.

My mother likes 'Grumpy Old Men", too. BTW I mean the movie not my dad(My dad can be grumpy at times).

I seen "South Pacific" only once. I didn't like it , but again I was in high school when I saw it. I mean I saw it in a high school. Once a month the school would show a movie in the auditorium after lunch. I should've stayed in class and played cards.

Sarah,
"High Fidelity," "Gosford Park," and "The Royal Tenenbaums."

All good movies. I have two friends who would argue over "The Royal Tenebaums". It was hilarious because their arguing kept right on going when "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" came out.

And, for what it's worth, I hated "Napolean Dynamite" on my first viewing, too...and I still do.

I liked it after a few viewings. But nowhere near what others do.

Okay, you asked for it. Anything starring Arnold Schwartzennegar (sp?) (no exceptions); Evil Dead III - Army Of Darkness (yes, I'm a big fan but I mean, it really is a b-grade flick. I recently tried to watch it with Toni and we got about a third way through before we both we like "okay, had enough now"). There are a bunch of horror movies and crappy thrillers whose names escape me at the moment as well, but I think I've embarrassed myself enough for the moment.

I like most movies I see and avoid the ones I know I won't like. I usually love watching the ones that I really enjoyed over and over again, and most times see scenes I don't remember seeing the first or second or sometimes the third time around....you would too if you had kids - they're so distracting!!

Arnold movies aren't too bad. You know what you getting when you see his movies.

Evil Dead III - Army Of Darkness

I love the Evil Dead movies. Maybe they should make a Evil Dead IV movie with Arnold.

I always watch movies I like over and over. Isn't there a movie you seen that you didn't hate but only thought was okay then after seeing it the second time you ended up liking it more?
