From Movies or TV

This article is inspired by my 2 youngest brothers. Anyone who has siblings, especially younger siblings, has been asked to mediate a disagreement or resolve a dispute between them.

Normally, when my brothers in question are going at it, their verbal battles are over important matters. For example, their last fight before this one, was over what movie character would you rather be - a Terminator or a vampire - more specifically, T-1000 from "Terminator 2" or Lestat from "Interview From The Vampire".

Their latest difference of opinions, was the hard-hitting question on every mature adult's mind - What movie or TV cowboy was the quickest draw?

See, they were watching the movie, "The Quick and the Dead", in the movie there's a gunfight tournament, where 2 gunfighters are matched up against in each other in a gunfight, then move on to face other winners, the last person standing is the winner.

That's when their little quarrel began. One brother said the Russell Crowe character would have beaten the Gene Hackman character, while the other brother said he didn't disagree with him, but thought the Val Kilmer character from the movie, "Tombstone", would beat them both. Their war escalated, and like any other highly contested intelluctual debates, points were made in such eloquent ways. I would share, but if I did, I would have to add "This Article Contains Adult Content" to this blog.

I just sat there reading a book. Well, not actually reading a book, more like re-reading the same page over and over, and still not retaining anything because I'm listening to the 2 knuckleheads. I know it's only going to be a matter of seconds before they ask me to settle it.

It got me thinking, I wonder who is the quickest draw. So I'm asking all you out there, especially you western fans. Here's some match-ups for you and a few other questions.

From TV who would win these match-ups:

1. Heath Barkley (Lee Majors) "The Big Valley" vs. Little Joe Cartwright (Michael Landon) "Bonanza"

2. Rowdy Yates (Clint Eastwood) "Rawhide" vs. Wild Bill Hickok (Keith Carradine) "Deadwood"

3. Josh Randall (Steve McQueen) "Wanted:Dead or Alive" vs. Paladin (Richard Boone) "Have Gun Will Travel"

4. Matt Dillon (James Arness) "Gunsmoke" vs. Lucas McCain (Chuck Connors) "The Rifleman"

5. Who do you think is the fastest out of those 8 TV characters?

From the movies who would win these match-ups:

6. Cort (Russell Crowe) "The Quick and the Dead" vs. Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer) "Tombstone"

7. Shane (Alan Ladd) "Shane" vs. Jimmy Ringo (Gregory Peck) "The Gunfighter"

8. Will Kane (Gary Cooper) "High Noon" vs. J.B. Books (John Wayne) "The Shootist"

9. Joe (Clint Eastwood) "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" vs. Harmonica (Charles Bronson) "Once Upon a Time in the West"

10. Who do you think is the fastest out of those 8 movie characters?

11. Who is the fastest out of all of them?

btw.. question #6 is for my brothers.

oh and if you're wondering how I got them to stop .. I told them that The Waco Kid (Gene Wilder) from "Blazing Saddles" would beat them both.

--QUICKDRAW MC'GRAW

Oh yeah...is he related to Dr. Phil? They kind of talk alike.--

Hilarious, RW!

Can Quickdraw McGraw beat Yosemite Sam?

No, 'cause Yosemite Sam is "the rootinest, tootinest shootinest hombre north, south, east and west o'the Pecos!"

Thanks, Serenity. You may be a NUT but not for answering all my questions.

like his movies, too. Are you looking for them on DVD or VHS? I ask because aren't most of his movies available on VHS?

Anything! I have yet to find any of the movies they did together. Then again I'm not searching hard enough,LOL!

I see you get to things as fast as me. Seriously though, Amazon has a fair selection of his movies at decent prices, too.

Now back to Terrence Hill....I've been trying to find old movies (mostly westerns) with him up to this day and can't. He starred in a few with the character named "Bigga"..."Trinity and Bigga" were the baddest in the land....love those guys!

Most of Terence Hill's (and Bud Spencer's) westerns were European movies, with often non-existent or very lame English versions. I have seen them (and own them on DVD) in German (they were made in Italian and German and English, Hill speaks all three).

I just watched one of Hill's films in English yesterday. The two Nobody filmes have just been (re-)released in English. The German version is better, but the English version was quite good enough.

And he is faster too.

Hill's character is usually "Sleepy Joe", or the left hand of the devil, a character he plays in four movies (two with Bud Spencer, two without). Earlier movies were re-dubbed to get them inline with the Joe-and-his-brother story line.

Spencer's character is usually "the little one", which in German and Italian has a somewhat different meaning, and is a really funny name for the fatter and bigger of two brothers. Alas, I cannot translate this meaning (and believe me, I tried, but there is no real translation).

Trinitao is the original name of the sleepy Joe character.

The common theme was that the movie would start with Hill/Joe sleeping, possibly falling out of a wagon, or simply being led to some place by his horse. Hill would slowly wake up, perform some odd actions, and then fall asleep again in another wagon or his horse and leave. Later the movie would explain all the odd actions and it will often turn out to be part of an elaborate plan.

And he is the fastest by far.

Although he isn't serious. But at least two of the movies are really good (apart from funny), and three or four others are still quite good, while Hill and Spencer are still very popular in Germany and Italy for all their movies, not just the westerns.

I have a few Spencer movies and quite enjoy the rather summarised humour of simply hitting people on the head.

In German but contains a list of all their movies with Italian and English titles, as well as pictures and (German) audio files.

Leauki...thanks a bunch for this find! I know the movies they are always sooo funny!

Oooh, I'm jealous! I want to see the movies again because I watched them a lot as a child in my homeland and I haven't seen any since. I just remember how much I enjoyed them and laughed so much, plus Terrence's eyes...I get lost in them! That much I remember!

Seriously though, my entire family would sit and watch his movie, he was a fav of my parents so I have nothing but fond memories. Plus they were very popular in Jamaica!

From TV who would win these match-ups:

1. Heath Barkley (Lee Majors) "The Big Valley" vs. Little Joe Cartwright (Michael Landon) "Bonanza"

Heath Barkley would win this match - just barely.  Heath had the reputation for being the best with the gun - Jarred was the brains and Nick was the brawn.

2. Rowdy Yates (Clint Eastwood) "Rawhide" vs. Wild Bill Hickok (Keith Carradine) "Deadwood"

No opinion.

3. Josh Randall (Steve McQueen) "Wanted:Dead or Alive" vs. Paladin (Richard Boone) "Have Gun Will Travel"

No opinion.

4. Matt Dillon (James Arness) "Gunsmoke" vs. Lucas McCain (Chuck Connors) "The Rifleman"

Lucas McCain quite easily.

5. Who do you think is the fastest out of those 8 TV characters?

Lucas McCain aka "The Rifleman."

From the movies who would win these match-ups:

6. Cort (Russell Crowe) "The Quick and the Dead" vs. Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer) "Tombstone"

Doc Holliday (Val was lethal... you saw how easily he took Johnny Ringo.

7. Shane (Alan Ladd) "Shane" vs. Jimmy Ringo (Gregory Peck) "The Gunfighter"

No Opinion.

8. Will Kane (Gary Cooper) "High Noon" vs. J.B. Books (John Wayne) "The Shootist"

No Opinion.

9. Joe (Clint Eastwood) "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" vs. Harmonica (Charles Bronson) "Once Upon a Time in the West"

Joe from the "Good, the Bad and the Ugly."

10. Who do you think is the fastest out of those 8 movie characters?

Doc Holliday
