From Movies or TV
Published on September 22, 2005 By uDigItTheMost In Entertainment
This article is inspired by my 2 youngest brothers. Anyone who has siblings, especially younger siblings, has been asked to mediate a disagreement or resolve a dispute between them.

Normally, when my brothers in question are going at it, their verbal battles are over important matters. For example, their last fight before this one, was over what movie character would you rather be - a Terminator or a vampire - more specifically, T-1000 from "Terminator 2" or Lestat from "Interview From The Vampire".

Their latest difference of opinions, was the hard-hitting question on every mature adult's mind - What movie or TV cowboy was the quickest draw?

See, they were watching the movie, "The Quick and the Dead", in the movie there's a gunfight tournament, where 2 gunfighters are matched up against in each other in a gunfight, then move on to face other winners, the last person standing is the winner.

That's when their little quarrel began. One brother said the Russell Crowe character would have beaten the Gene Hackman character, while the other brother said he didn't disagree with him, but thought the Val Kilmer character from the movie, "Tombstone", would beat them both. Their war escalated, and like any other highly contested intelluctual debates, points were made in such eloquent ways. I would share, but if I did, I would have to add "This Article Contains Adult Content" to this blog.

I just sat there reading a book. Well, not actually reading a book, more like re-reading the same page over and over, and still not retaining anything because I'm listening to the 2 knuckleheads. I know it's only going to be a matter of seconds before they ask me to settle it.

It got me thinking, I wonder who is the quickest draw. So I'm asking all you out there, especially you western fans. Here's some match-ups for you and a few other questions.

From TV who would win these match-ups:

1. Heath Barkley (Lee Majors) "The Big Valley" vs. Little Joe Cartwright (Michael Landon) "Bonanza"

2. Rowdy Yates (Clint Eastwood) "Rawhide" vs. Wild Bill Hickok (Keith Carradine) "Deadwood"

3. Josh Randall (Steve McQueen) "Wanted:Dead or Alive" vs. Paladin (Richard Boone) "Have Gun Will Travel"

4. Matt Dillon (James Arness) "Gunsmoke" vs. Lucas McCain (Chuck Connors) "The Rifleman"

5. Who do you think is the fastest out of those 8 TV characters?

From the movies who would win these match-ups:

6. Cort (Russell Crowe) "The Quick and the Dead" vs. Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer) "Tombstone"

7. Shane (Alan Ladd) "Shane" vs. Jimmy Ringo (Gregory Peck) "The Gunfighter"

8. Will Kane (Gary Cooper) "High Noon" vs. J.B. Books (John Wayne) "The Shootist"

9. Joe (Clint Eastwood) "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" vs. Harmonica (Charles Bronson) "Once Upon a Time in the West"

10. Who do you think is the fastest out of those 8 movie characters?

11. Who is the fastest out of all of them?

btw.. question #6 is for my brothers.

oh and if you're wondering how I got them to stop .. I told them that The Waco Kid (Gene Wilder) from "Blazing Saddles" would beat them both.

I'd like to see "Tombstone"'s Doc Holiday against Paladin. That might be cool. But hey, man.....you forgot the quickest draw in the West:

The Lone Ranger (Clayton Moore).

Never killed anyone; always shot the gun out of their hand and kicked their ass.

Damn. I hate when I forget good ones.

The fastest are of course, and in that order, Waco Kid and Nobody (Terence Hill).

What's there to debate?

on Sep 22, 2005
Well, there was Gibson in Maverick, but he couldn't shoot for crap.

That's what I was going to say when I saw your title.

As for the 8 listed, I'd go with either "Joe" (Clint Eastwood) or Shane.

I'm going to be the nut who answers all your questions! I love westerns too.

1. Heath Barkley (Lee Majors) "The Big Valley" vs. Little Joe Cartwright (Michael Landon) "Bonanza" Little Joe (I liked him better...hey I'm girl!)

2. Rowdy Yates (Clint Eastwood) "Rawhide" vs. Wild Bill Hickok (Keith Carradine) "Deadwood" Rowdy Yates (Clint, Clint!!)

3. Josh Randall (Steve McQueen) "Wanted:Dead or Alive" vs. Paladin (Richard Boone) "Have Gun Will Travel" I only saw Wanted: Dead or Alive so I'ld have to go with Josh Randall.

4. Matt Dillon (James Arness) "Gunsmoke" vs. Lucas McCain (Chuck Connors) "The Rifleman" Most definately Lucas McCain!!

5. Who do you think is the fastest out of those 8 TV characters? Terrence Hill hands down...OK, OK, I know you didn't mention him...I guess Rowdy Yates will be my choice!

From the movies who would win these match-ups:

6. Cort (Russell Crowe) "The Quick and the Dead" vs. Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer) "Tombstone" I liked the Cort guy but Doc would win!

7. Shane (Alan Ladd) "Shane" vs. Jimmy Ringo (Gregory Peck) "The Gunfighter" Hmmm, I remember these two, long ago.....Jimmy Ringo!

8. Will Kane (Gary Cooper) "High Noon" vs. J.B. Books (John Wayne) "The Shootist" Geech, it gets harder....Will Kane!

9. Joe (Clint Eastwood) "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" vs. Harmonica (Charles Bronson) "Once Upon a Time in the West" You're killing me here....Joe!!

10. Who do you think is the fastest out of those 8 movie characters? Joe!!!! That movie was most definately a great one!

11. Who is the fastest out of all of them? Again Terrence Hill.....hahaha...OK, Joe...any movie character that Clint played was just fast in my opinion, although Doc Holiday would give him a run for his money!

Now back to Terrence Hill....I've been trying to find old movies (mostly westerns) with him up to this day and can't. He starred in a few with the character named "Bigga"..."Trinity and Bigga" were the baddest in the land....love those guys!

I have to give a kudos for the Waco Kid comment, very funny...and yep he was pretty fast too! Blazing Saddles is one of my all time fav movies!

James Garner is probably faster than him.

Speaking of James Garner, I forgot about his "Support Your Local ..." movies. Triple Damn!!

--As for the 8 listed, I'd go with either "Joe" (Clint Eastwood) or Shane.--

Both great picks, great characters and great movies. I think Joe would get Shane though. Shane! Shane, draw faster!

--I'm going to be the nut who answers all your questions! I love westerns too.--

Thanks, Serenity. You may be a NUT but not for answering all my questions.

--Now back to Terrence Hill....I've been trying to find old movies (mostly westerns) with him up to this day and can't. He starred in a few with the character named "Bigga"..."Trinity and Bigga" were the baddest in the land....love those guys!--

I like his movies, too. Are you looking for them on DVD or VHS? I ask because aren't most of his movies available on VHS?

--I have to give a kudos for the Waco Kid comment, very funny...and yep he was pretty fast too! Blazing Saddles is one of my all time fav movies!--

It's a very funny movie. Lot of good quotes in it, too.
